The green tea hype!

It started a few weeks back with a couple of guys sipping the hyped 'green tea' in office instead of the regular dose of caffeine. And slowly, the fad spread to more than a dozen people.
Getting curious (as always :-)), I asked a couple of guys what's the thing about it, and what's so special about it.
The answers ranged from vague ones like 'Good for health' to technically-sounding ones like 'Gets rid of toxins'.

It is common knowledge, (in fact very common) thanks to Google, that walking or any other physical exercises are equally or in fact more detoxifying, de-stressing, rejuvenating than the daily cup of green tea.
When there are cheaper and more effective alternatives available, not sure why people turn to things which claim to do things easily and fail at it so badly.

Sure green tea companies, sauna belt manufacturing units, 'morning walker' etc will continue to make hay till we don't give up on these easier and costlier, yet ineffective alternatives.

So next time, instead of sipping on the green tea, just get up and get moving!

  1. Shreyas Pai totally agree I dont know why people want to go running behind false hopes. Why dont they just get up and walk or play their favourite sport for a change. Or better still atleast take the stairs the simplest and the most inexpensive alternative. :)

  2. I would agree that walking is a better option. But if you drink green tea (without sugar!) instead of coffee - that's really much better drink:)

    1. True, but as a personal choice I'd actually prefer a low or no sugar coffee, because green tea cannot do what Coffee can :-) And then of course follow it up with a walk/jog to burn the calories! :)

  3. Comparing a jog and a cup of tea, one an exercise another a drink is not a very fair comparison. It is ok to compare a drink to another, and drinks are as much a matter of individual taste as of health. If someone is considering green tea as substitute for exercise, it is off-course not right.

    1. Hmmm, I agree that drinks are a matter of personal choice and taste. However, the point I was trying to drive home with the post was how easily catch up and adopt any fad without giving it a real thought. These habits seem like a very easy alternative, but they ain't even a fraction effective as compared to the time-tested methods like Sports, Jogging etc.

And you hit the nail on the head by mentioning about the use of green tea as a substitute for exercise.
